hats off to the university of alberta. I would have loved to have seen a platform pitch/debate for VP external like this one.

Bad Robot makes stuff other than Lost. I didn’t bother to see the remake of The Hitcher because the C. Thomas Howell/Rutger Hauer version was good enough for me that I didn’t see the point of remaking it. I kinda stumbled across a trailer for project cloverfield on the Apple Trailers site today.
Also, also: hrmmm…
Long day? Hungry? Solo? If you’re female, cute, funny, single, and live in the Ottawa area, I’ll make you dinner! I crack myself up.
slashfood has a great and simple idea for a quick summer meal. It’s essentially a greek salad with the lettuce and dressing replaced with pasta, some olive oil, and seasonings. They call it Greek Pasta, and I’m not going to argue with them. Here’s the recipe.
My recommendations:
Tasty, healthy, yummy stuff in about 10 minutes from throwing the pasta in the water to eating all alone again. I would have included a pic, but forgot to take one. I was hungry, and that’s my excuse.
you may have noticed that people who own apple gear like to cover said gear with stickers. part of this is cultural, the other part is because apple gear scratches if you breath on it funny.
I’m not a big fan of throwing 50 stickers on something, mainly because the odds of them coming off later are poor, and most stickers eventually wear. I’m also not a big fan of my mbp meeting the same, scratched-to-shit fate as my Ti.
enter GelaSkins, a Toronto-based company that takes prints and fits them to laptop sized sheets of 3M film. the film has a nifty adhesive that allows you to position it properly on the lid, and then press it in place with nary a bubble. smoooooth. it’s also thick enough that you really can’t see the glowing apple (another plus, in my books).
I saw them a couple months ago on one of the tech blogs, and then deb reminded me of them the other day in a tweet to pkim. I ordered it yesterday and it arrived today. installation was "wipe down laptop, peel, stick, smooth".
this is the result. I like.
The more I look at this pic, the more I like it. There’s so much light and shadow and texture and green and a little bokeh and a blown out background and some burnt, yellow grass and a $4 golf ball (that has since dropped to $2.25 since I bought them) that I lost shortly after this was taken.
So yeah. I just like this, so I’ll share it with the people who don’t typically hit my flickr site. Also, it’s my damn blog, so I can do with it what I want. And I want to share, whether you want it or not! 🙂
Oh, and if you’re wondering about the title, you need to read more Foxtrot.
I like finding food sites unexpectedly. I love the bigger ones, like slashfood, ottawa foodies, and even the food network, but running into sites like wasabi cowgirl’s is usually a bigger treat. Normal folks cooking abnormally good eats in their kitchens. Yum.
So, before I forget to mention her, head on over to Jule’s food blog at the stone soup. She claims to have a tiny kitchen, but holy crap does the stuff that comes out of it look amazing. She photographs everything, gives a good overview of the meal and its component dishes, and then gives the recipes and prep tips. I’ll be trying a few of the dishes she shares, for sure.
Well worth the read.
Dan Gillmor has a quick rundown of what he doesn’t like about the iPhone. He makes some really good points, and the one that I didn’t realize was that the battery was not removable. I guess this shouldn’t surprise me given how the iPods are constructed, but it does, because having spares for those times when you really need the phone you forgot (or were unable) to charge is always a nice option.
There’s some other points that are great, including the non-removable SIM (control, control, control) and a lack (or non-intuitive implementation) of cut-and-paste. There’s also some nits about the keyboard that a lot of reviewers – and even Apple – have said are fine if you just let the software do it’s job.
In any event, after all the gushing and “squee!” and people who just will not shut up about the goddamn jesus-phone, it’s nice to see something that is not gushy, but is not an “I hate the iPhone even though I’ve never seen one”, either.
I’ll stick with the crackberry/nano combo, which suits me just fine.
If you didn’t know, Firefox 1.5 was end-of-lifed at the start of June. Version 1.5.0.12 is the last version of Firefox 1.5 that will be released. Today, we announced that the major release which will upgrade 1.5 users to the current version would be released.
As of 18:30(ish) Eastern today, the update was pushed out and is now live. If you’re running 1.5, you’ll be offered an upgrade to 2.0.0.4 over the next few days. Take the offer! 🙂
Congrats to everyone who worked on this; it’s a huuuuuuuuge milestone.
a smoothie made of apple juice, vanilla protein powder, berries, and activa is a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad combination. I didn’t have anything but apple juice in the house. I will rectify that this morning.
What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)
Northern You have a Northern accent. That could either be the Chicago/Detroit/Cleveland/Buffalo accent (easily recognizable) or the Western New England accent that news networks go for. |
