tooting of one’s horn

3322 Jeez I love how the pics I took last summer turned out. The blues and greens make me happy, and the shots from the site of the Lone Cyprus turned out better than I ever could have imagined. They’re all unretouched, and it really was that gorgeous that day. Apologies for foisting them on […]

8 years

Huh. I missed the squid’s eighth birthday. I don’t really feel bad about it, but it’s interesting to reflect on how much has changed since the domain was originally registered. People have moved on, married, had kids, changed jobs multiple times, fallen off the planet, etc. I’ve held five jobs and lived in four different […]

how dissapointing

Well, apparently you’ve gotta be a bald Natalie Portman or so hurtin’ you have to be the lead in a remake of the Shaggy Dog (fer fuck sakes) to make the theatres here in Bytown-land. I was really hoping to catch Don’t Come Knocking this weekend, but it’s not playing. I’m not sure if it’s […]

more time wasting goodness

Evilhoof and Flayed have come up with a nice little World of Warcraft machinima movie on the benefits of the interweeb. Fair warning: Probably NSFW if you’re listening through speakers, and the title of the vid includes the “pr0n” word. Still funny, though.

the impossible dream

Here’s an ad that’s really hard to describe, but can be summed up simply as “cool”. It’s a great bit that spans Honda’s history, the passion they attribute to themselves, their depth in the “things that go” market, and the rush that’s associated with doing things you couldn’t do unassisted. Beautiful imagery, and a great […]

alive with bacon

A while back I posted about the breakdancing transformer ad for the Citroen C4. As with a lot of good things, the copycats come out after the fact. They’re usually worse than the original, and this one is no exception. It goes on way too long, knocks off both the original ad and the music, […]

crap on the right

I’ve made a couple changes to the sidebar, adding a random pic from my photo gallery along with info on what’s currently playing on iTunes. Why? I dunno, it just seemed like a good idea. The tunes info comes courtesy of Brandon Fuller’s Now Playing plugin for iTunes (Windows only, but there are a bunch […]

frankfurt i’m sorry

Back in the bad old Ingenia days, there was a bunch of Westies who came to visit, work, and play with us for a while. One of them had really stinky feet, and grew up to be CTO of a successful online jewelry company (where he scored a very cool desk). He loved this westie […]

this week’s track

The more I listen to CBC Radio 3’s podcast, the more I like what I hear. This week introduced me to Vancouver’s The New Pornographers. They’re not anything close to new, but they’re new to me, and it’s another band you’ll never hear any place that plays a “Your station is a Standard Radio station” […]

more good stuff

Have a listen to Transientworld. They were featured on this week’s CBC Radio 3 podcast, and I’m kinda digging their shit. “Forever in the Sun” incorporates samples, a sitar, and percussion that makes me think of a lighter—but not low-cal—version of the Chemical Brothers. Good stuff, I like.
