to the 5 boroughs

So I listen to “An Open Letter to NYC” from the new Beastie Boys CD, and I find myself incredibly – I mean INCREDIBLY– homesick. The BQE was the road to the airport, I’ve traveled on the 1-9 lines, I know the Battery to the top of Manhattan. New York does make it happen, and I wanna be back there doing what I do.

I miss my friends from NYC something terrible. I need to get back, I really do.

fatboy slim is fucking in heaven

I can’t see the difference… can you see the difference?

On the left is me in a pic at the peak of my large-ness. I was around 245lbs. in that one. On the right is me as of a couple weeks ago. I am 195 there, and am aiming to drop another 10-15 over the summer in preparation for the race.

omfg I was a fatboy. I’ve come a long way, baby. And yes, I am self-congratulating. If you had pics like these of yourself, you might, too.

wow – that was surprising

Alrighty – the run went really well, and I feel great for the first time in ages. The calf is sore, but overall I feel really good. I managed to put 7.5k on my shoes in 25 degree weather and stupid humidity without dying.

I also took in the lovely protestors at the NAC this eve. I am assuming there were somy mucky-mucks there, as the nice, blue RCMP cars were everywhere, and every stairwell/entrance to the general vicinity of the NAC was blocked by unmarked vehicles. The protestors made a tonne of irritating noise with megahorns, whistles, and chanting. I’d hate to have been in the restaurant down by the water, as it was a nice evening spoiled.

Ah well, right to free speech and all that, especially with the election coming up.

Ahhh – all the chief mucky-mucks were playing with them… err… debating this eve. By all accounts, the master-debater (sic) was the Bloc’s rep. Well, they’ve always been pretty good at sniping, and really shitty at anything else (like, running the province). It’s good to see some tradition’s don’t die.

slowerus

My calf still hurts – it shouldn’t take this long to heal, should it? oh wait – 6-8 weeks – riiight. Thankfully, it’s only a dull ache now, so I can plod through and it feels relatively decent after 10-15 minutes of work. I’m thinking there’s just a little bit of scar tissue there, still. I guess I’ll just have to resign myself to a session with Tina and hopefully she can obliterate some of that mass of leftover bruise.

On that note, it’s time for a run in the heat and humidity.

a non-event

Well, the results of the migration are in, and it was a success all the way around. The most common problem this time around was people who were unaware there was a migration on (and the only reason they noticed was because they couldn’t upload new content because the conventions changed a little). All in all, a successful run, and a very nice change from the first attempt. I’m feeling a little better about the next three weeks now.

I won’t claim to see the light at the end of the tunnel because the minute I do, the train’ll hit me again. Still, it’s nice to have people saying positive things for once.

movin’ on down

Just got an e-mail from our Captain, and it looks like we’ll be dropping down to Tier 5. He received a note regarding how moving up and dropping down after the first three games will be made, and it goes something like this:

“The benchmark for moving up in this shuffle (as told to me by the other coordinators) is a 3-0 record with a +/- of at least +25. An 0-3 record with +/- of -25 or worse means that I will try to move you down.”

We’re 0-3 and have a point differential of -26 over those three games. I’d say “suck”, but I hafta admit this is probably a move in the right direction for our team. It’s disappointing because our team has the ability to compete, we just haven’t been terribly consistent from an attendance and effort point of view.

We’ll see how it goes on Wed in our new tier.

batch2a is in

Alrighty, the migration went very smoothly this evening – a very different experience from the last time. The pre-test went almost perfectly, with only a minor hiccup with some unexpected lag from making some config changes to an MTA and a couple of zonefiles that didn’t load properly. We were able to move the final commit up by 90 minutes, which was good because I need the sleep.

It’s late, we’re done, and I’m hoping my phone doesn’t ring off the hook on Monday morning.

sometimes, beer is bad

Today is one of those days where I kinda wish I hadn’t done the things I did the night before. I didn’t go out of my way to hurt myself, but fatigue is cumulative, and with a beer-influenced sleep I’m positively exhausted today.

Yesterday was James’ birthday and the start of this year’s CFL pre-season. Festivities involving a pre-game BBQ and beer were planned, but Tina could only see me yesterday eve, so I elected to catch up with folks at the game after getting my calves attended to.

The game was pretty boring until Kerry Joseph went in (the CFL puts it’s starters in during the second half in pre-season, which is weird only because the NFL doesn’t), and then Ottawa threw some points up on the board. The ‘Gades won it 28-24, but that was only against the Alouette’s second-stringers, so it really doesn’t mean much. Afterwards it was off to Patty’s for more beer, which was a bad idea, but it wasn’t a bad evening.

Today I feel like crap, and the migration attempt number 2 starts tonight at 22:00. I tried going for a run, but at a slow pace my heartrate was between 185-195 consistently, which means I’m over-tired (I have been told the name for what happens when my HR does that, but can’t remember what it is). Now I have a headache, and all I wanna do is go to bed. No chance of that happening beyond a nap, which is what I’m gonna do now.
