{"id":233,"date":"2005-03-18T09:24:24","date_gmt":"2005-03-18T14:24:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kev.needham.ca\/blog\/?p=233"},"modified":"2005-03-18T09:24:24","modified_gmt":"2005-03-18T14:24:24","slug":"one-week-to-go","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kev.needham.ca\/index.php\/2005\/03\/18\/one-week-to-go\/","title":{"rendered":"one week to go"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, at this time next week, I should be landing in Glasgow for a week and a half of enjoying Scotland. <a href=\"http:\/\/karen.deadsquid.com\/\" title=\"She taught me that trackies don't go with nice coats\">Karen<\/a> has generously offered to put up with me for a while, and make sure I don&#8217;t kill myself by looking the wrong way when I cross the street.<\/p>\n<p>The itinerary has been pretty much finalised, and the plan is to spend a few days in Glasgow, head over to Edinburgh to check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk\/edinburgh\/edinburghcastle\/\" title=\"it certainly looks old and impressive... kinda like grandpas\">castle<\/a>,  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmile.com\/\" title=\"Jam-packed with pubs, history, shops, and people\">Royal Mile<\/a> and, if there&#8217;s time, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottishsport.co.uk\/walking\/arthurseat.htm\" title=\"grrl says the views are incredible\">Arthur&#8217;s Seat<\/a>. After that, it&#8217;s a train ride up to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agtb.org\/aberdeen-scotland.htm\" title=\"Where, apparently, the men are men, and the sheep are afraid\">Granite City<\/a> where the mode of transportation will be switched to a rental car on the wrong side of the road.<\/p>\n<p>The next few days will be spent touring around Aberdeenshire, with a focus on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk\/stonehaven\/dunnottarcastle\/\" title=\"Impressive. Imposing. Watch your step.\">castles<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maltwhiskytrail.com\/\" title=\"This trail was made for crawling\">Whisky Trail<\/a>. The intent is to visit a number of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.balvenie.com\/\">distilleries<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.braemarcastle.co.uk\/\">castles<\/a>, walking trails, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pluscardenabbey.org\/\">abbeys<\/a>, and maybe a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk\/macduff\/macduff\/index.html\">village<\/a> or two along the North Sea, while staying at a variety of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kildrummycastlehotel.co.uk\/\" title=\"Too cool\">cool places<\/a>. After touring around Speyside for a while, it&#8217;ll be West to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inverness-scotland.com\/\">Inverness<\/a> to check out a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk\/nairn\/fortgeorge\/\">fort<\/a>, a castle, the town, and maybe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nessie.co.uk\/\" title=\"and maybe we'll even see Mr. Burns!\">Nessie<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The car will be returned in Inverness, and then it&#8217;s a train ride back to Glasgow for a day, followed by a travel day back to Ottawa. <\/p>\n<p>A real vaction; I&#8217;m just a wee bit excited.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, at this time next week, I should be landing in Glasgow for a week and a half of enjoying Scotland.
